Planted in 1978, the semi-dwarf cherry tree in my backyard appears to be ill. Some of the leaves look translucent, many of the large branches have white blotchy stuff on them, and some of the branches including a few large ones have dried up and fallen to the ground. What to do?
So, I took some photos, threw some of the sick fallen branches in the trunk of my car, and headed over to the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension office where I was greeted by a knowledgeable Master Gardener who helped diagnosis the problem.
I felt like I was at the veterinarian's office with a sick puppy; in the waiting room were other people holding assorted branches and plants and things.
The Master Gardener program is wonderful. Several of my friends have gone through that program. I have hopes of someday being a Master Gardener of Master Naturalist.
What ideas or solutions do you have for rescuing my cherry tree?
